Although I gave this Item a 4 star rating I had to drop 1 star because of the very high base. Even at it's lowest levels the base over rides the other settings. Other Wise a great 5.1 true THX system great for your PC. Great value if you cannot afford the Z-5500.

I bought these speakers about six years ago for about $70. I simply love them for the price I got them for.
Pros: cheap (if you wait for a sale), powerful, sound decent
cons: sub woofer is over-powering, cords are not long enough,
At 280 watts, they can shake your walls if you want them to. I had them in my small dorm room in the corner, which isn't a good idea since my neighbors can feel the vibrations. Even when set at the lowest setting, the bass is very present. You have to use your equalizer to downplay that 100W dual channel monster. Another solution I found is putting some paper into the hole where air is being pushed out to dampen the bass a little. I don't know how safe this is to do so at your own discretion. A word of advice would be to keep these off the ground and away from room corners. This would help keep the sound from resonating off the walls and shaking them.
These are the most affordable speakers for the quality you get. They don't sound super clear, but they don't sound too bad either. I don't have a sound card hooked up so might definitely make a difference. I usually have the matrix turned off because it sounds more pronounced to me. Even with 5 satellites speakers, the chords are not long enough to make it truly surround sound (unless you have a small room). Movies sound absolutely amazing through these speakers. Music will sound good, unless you are an audiophile.
If you can find them for $60 (just keep waiting), buy them, its the best value for a powerful 5.1 set.

These speakers are loud! They have great bass and crystal clear sound! A great speaker set for the price. You won't find anything better in this price range!

Wow!!! These things crank out the sound. Loud with enough bass to shake the house. I couldn't be happier with these speakers. I've had them for over 6 years and they still crank. I have them hooked to a Dell PC with a Creative 5.1 sound card. They fill the room and shake the walls. You'll need some space cause the subwoofer is pretty big and the speakers wires are the long enough to place them in 5.1 configuration.

The system is exceptional. It has incredible power and is clear as a bell. I am very impressed with this system, it nearly blew me out of my seat playing Doom3.
My only complaint was in the delivery. It took 11 days to receive, neither UPS or Amazon kew where it was initially. Aside from that I would highly recommend this system.
